Recenly, Cap'n Jonny found in the Bicycle Exchange shop, a Diamondback Ascent tagged for donation. Being one of our top "Homework Heros," he says he just had to put his hands on it. Read on for Jonny's story, with photos, of how he restored this bike.

Restored Diamond Back Ascent bicycle, teal blue frame and white cables

I swapped out the bars and stem, added white cables, Shimano index thumbies, and some balloon white walls. Usually we would sell something like this but we are pushing to increase our donations to meet our yearly goal so someone is going to receive a beautiful Christmas present this year.

These bikes came with either cantilever brakes at both ends or with a U-brake at the rear. They also had braze-ons on the fork for a front rack. One I previously worked on even had a holder for extra spokes on the Chain stay. They have the potential to be set up as an adventure touring bike or an urban pack mule with panniers both front and back. Either way, this is going to be a great ride for someone!
